The work is a digital bonsai, attempting to repair a broken pine tree using a digital object.

In Japan, there is a craft called ‘kintsugi,’ which uses gold to mend broken ceramics. The ‘kugi’ technique combines different broken pieces to create a new object. The artist tries to realize the concept of ‘kugi’ repair using technology and artificial materials.

The artist wrote over 200 different characters for ‘pine’ on rice paper, and these writings were combined with AI (Stable Diffusion) to generate images of different tree branches, attempting to replace the parts of the pine tree that have disappeared. The AI prompts and some original code will also appear on the screen.

“When you lose something you cannot replace” will be showing in @galerieoraora from 11 Jan - 8 Feb 2025 in the show Digital Rhythm
